Yuvraj Singh was supposed to be the star of the day but on Monday, it was Sunny Sohal, who shone bright for Punjab.
“I am very happy today. This is my first hundred and I hope that many more will come from my bat,” Sohal said, though he admits to throwing away his wicket immediately after. “I played a bad shot and I am not proud of it. I wanted to clear the mid-on fielder but couldn’t connect the ball well and I was caught. Guess I gave my wicket away,” he added.
Sohal single-handedly pulled Punjab out of a difficult situation, after the rest of the top order misfired on a good batting surface. “Arun Paaji (coach Arun Kumar Sharma) and my team mates were happy for me, but I know our team’s situation could have been better had I kept my end intact. A score of 237 isn’t great after 80-odd overs,” he said.
Unlike others, Sohal has no fond memories of the Indian Premier League. Sohal, who was part of the Kings XI Punjab team, said he did not benefit from the exposure. “There were so many players and chances were few and far between. I played two matches where I batted really down the order. I played a single delivery in one and six balls in the other,” Sohal recalled.
