She said on December 27, she stepped into the jail’s identification hall and tapped Kasab’s shoulder, indicating to the special executive officer that he was the man she had seen. Kasab then smiled and identified himself, she said.
Of 26/11, she said she had seen two terrorists enter the hospital compound and open fire. She then rushed to her ward located on the first floor where 20 patients were admitted and took them into the pantry. She deposed that for two hours she heard firing and explosions on the top floors.
Judge M L Tahaliyani said that Gulate’s statements could be treated as an extra-judicial confession and he would take a decision later.
The prosecution also examined Bharat Vaghela, who broke down as he identified Kasab as the killer of his brother Thakur Vaghela. He said he saw two terrorists coming from the CST and then he rushed to his house. From a gap in his door he saw Kasab shoot his brother in the next room. Vaghela pointed at Kasab and said, “Sir, he is the scoundrel who killed my brother. He has little children. Who will look after them?”
Kasab kept staring at Vaghela and smiled occasionally. As he kept smiling, Judge Tahaliyani said, “Today his lawyer Abbas Kazmi hasn’t instructed him to be serious in court. I fail to understand why he is smiling so much.”
