Punjab's opening batsman Jiwanjot Singh, who made an impressive debut in Ranji Trophy against Hyderabad last month by notching a double century, today said he would like to play like his role model Sachin Tendulkar.
"I want to play like Sachin Tendulkar. I want to play the way he plays his innings," he told reporters here today. The second highest run-scorer in the season thus far behind Saurashtra's Ravindra Jadeja, Singh has garnered 619 runs in the five matches he has played, including two centuries and one double hundred. He scored 42 runs against Mumbai in the first innings of the ongoing Ranji Trophy match.
The 22-year-old batsman, who became the fifth Indian to score a double century on first-class debut, rated his knock of 213 as the best he has played so far in the ongoing Ranji season. "The knock in the first match is very special. There was a bit of pressure and it was also my debut. The Patiala-born player said he gained in confidence after the double ton and his 158 against Bengal in the next match was a good effort on a green-top in Mohali.
"I gained confidence after that knock but I am treating all matches as new. The next match (against Bengal) was good. It was a green wicket and difficult for players." shared the youngster, who is Punjab's in-form batsman this season. The youngster said he would like to display his batting skills in the cash-rich Indian Premier League."I want to play in IPL. If I play well in the domestic formats, then I will be selected for that. Nobody will say no to play in IPL. If a franchise selects me, I will play for them. I am not thinking about the players' auction now. I am just focusing on the Ranji Trophy matches," he said.
