Katrina Kaif who plays an NRI girl in the upcoming film 'New York' empathises with her character as she faced similar isolation because of her skin colour while growing up in London.

The 24-year-old beauty who has been voted the sexiest Asian woman for two consecutive years, remembered her college days in London which were spent in constant consciousness of her racial identity.

"When I was in college in London that had a lot of Asians, I was always very aware of the colour of my skin, that I was an Asian. There was this certain kind of segregation in the college," Katrina said in a TV interview.

The 'Singh is Kinng' star who was born to a Kashmiri father and a British mother in England added that the situation continues to be the same.

"This is some seven or eight years ago, I think it does go on," Katrina said.

Because of this 'personal experience' of hers, Katrina feels she can relate with her character and events in the upcoming flick 'New York'.

"Omar (played by Neil Nitin Mukesh) is a character who comes from India, my and Sam's character (played by John Abraham) are already kind of friends in the college. There is a certain kind of gelling together because they all are coming from the same place," Katrina said.
