Banda rape : Girl tells horror story in court,MLA ‘ill’ at ease

BSP MLA Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi, who has been suspended from the party for the alleged rape of a girl at his residence, got into deeper trouble on Tuesday when the victim,in an application in a local court, stated that the MLA had raped her twice, beaten and threatened her to keep quiet, and then framed her in a false case of theft.

This is the first time the girl has confirmed the allegations made by her family members that triggered protests by political parties and social organisations. Also, her story belies the police version. She has said the MLA and his men beat her inside the police station.

The girl, who is at present lodged in Banda jail in the theft case, submitted the application when she was produced in the court of judicial magistrate Parvez Akhtar. She also detailed the sequence of events, starting from how she reached the MLA’s residence, said her advocate Ramhit Nishad.

According to the girl, she tried to escape from the MLA’s residence when he wanted to rape her a third time. She was caught, beaten up,handed over to the police and a case of theft was slapped on her.

However, the police claim they arrested the girl two days after she reportedly escaped from the MLA’s residence after committing the theft and that they did so on a complaint lodged by the MLA’s son.

The court has asked the Banda jail superintendent to send her application to the SP for necessary action.

On an application moved by the girl’s advocate that she is a minor, the court directed the Chief Medical Officer of Banda to conduct a medical examination and submit a report by January 7. The court will take up the girl’s bail application the same day.

THE ORDEAL STORY

The girl had gone missing from her maternal grandmother’s house in Dharampur area of Panna district in Madhya Pradesh a few months ago. On December 8,her father Acheche Lal found her in Pathra village in Banda with the help of the MLA. From December 8 to 12,she stayed at the MLA’s residence, according to the police and the MLA.

On December 13 last year,a case was lodged in Banda where it was stated that the girl had stolen a cellphone,Rs 5,000 and a bag from the MLA’s residence and escaped.

The next day,she was shown arrested. On December 24,when the girl was produced in the court, she told her brother she was raped at the MLA’s house and then framed in a case of theft.

Following protests against the role of the local police, the government ordered an inquiry by CB-CID.

In her application, the girl stated that the MLA forcibly brought her to his residence on December 8 from the house of her aunt in Patra village. He told her father she would work as maid and stay at his residence like a daughter.

However, the MLA started pressuring her to marry his servant Cheddi, which she rejected. Later, the MLA raped her twice. When the MLA tried to rape her the third time, the girl said she tried to escape, but was caught by his men.

She was brought back to the MLA’s residence where she was beaten up by his men. They asked her to make a confession that she had stolen certain articles. She named four of the MLA’s associates — Rawan,Garg,Rajendra Shukla and Suresh Mehta.

Dwivedi told the team he has been suffering from diabetes and kidney problem for the last few years. “In my statement,I elaborated how my opponents were maligning me,” he said.

On Monday, the team recorded the statement of Achche Lal. It also visited Madhya Pradesh to meet the girl’s maternal grandmother and other relatives.
