Downplaying differences between his party colleagues Amar Singh and Azam Khan, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Wednesday said he would speak to both the leaders and resolve matters amicably.

"Ours is a big party and such things keep happening in a big family. Both Azam Khan and Amar Singh are senior Samajwadi leaders," he told reporters in Sambhal on the sidelines of an election rally.

"I am not being able to devote time to this (to solve the issue) ... the day I will get time I will speak to both the leaders and things will be resolved amicably. This (feud) will not have any bearing on the elections," he said.

Yadav's comments came a day after party general secretary Amar Singh threatened to quit the party, which he later retracted.

When asked whom would he like to keep in the party – Azam Khan or Amar Singh – Yadav said: "I would like to keep both of them. Both are working for the party".

Amar Singh and Azam Khan have been locked in an uneasy relationship ever since Khan, an influential leader in western Uttar Pradesh, has been campaigning against actor Jayaprada's candidature in Rampur from where she had won in 2004.

Amar Singh had on Tuesday said: "Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) has asked me personally not to make any statements against Azam, who has opened a front against party nominee from Rampur Jayaprada and also making anti-party remarks."
