After WC win, Pak players seek 'revised' IPL contracts

  • Sohail tanveer
One of the stars of IPL-1, Tanveer was signed for just $100,000.

Pakistan captain Younis Khan has advised his fellow players to revise their contracts with the Indian Premier League following the team's Twenty20 World Cup victory.

"After all, these players are now World champions and highly marketable. There is more value on their performances. Why should they keep on having contracts with the IPL franchises on same old contracts," Younis said.

He pointed out that top players like Kamran Akmal, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Gul and Misbah-ul Haq had signed contracts for USD 100,000 or less with the IPL when it was launched in 2008.

"But now the scenario is different. These players should talk to their agents in India and ask them to go for a hike in price from the IPL franchises," he said.

Pakistani players could not take part in the IPL second season which was shifted to South Africa from India due to security reasons.

They were advised against travelling to India for the IPL because of the strained relations between the two countries after the Mumbai terror attacks.

But IPL commissioner Lalit Modi said after Pakistan's World Cup win that he saw no problems in Pakistani players returning to play for their franchises in the IPL next year provided the Pakistan government gives them permission and the Indian government also clears them to play in India.

Younis said any money earned by the players from the IPL would be beneficial for them and for Pakistan as the money would come to Pakistan.

"I am happy if any of our players can be better packages in the IPL for next season," said Younis, who ended his contract with the Rajasthan Royals before the second season of the IPL.

Taha we also have illetrate ministers.Lalu runs railway ministry about 5 yearsBy: Ram | 28-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Taha we also have illetrate ministers.Lalu runs railway ministry about 5 years. He is a convicted men.My advise to Pakistanies players is that they should keep away from this match fixing saga [so called IPL] and Play in other good cricket leagues like Australias, South Africa and England.I also agreed that our cricket board is playing dirty game which will efect the Asian Block and only benefits goras.
Agree with HenryBy: Taha | 28-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward I agree with Henry that pakistan have been more consistent in reaching the world t20 finals twice. India played well in the first edition, but they are the ones that got lucky the first time in the final. This time pakistan won comprehensively against the two top and unbeaten sides back to back, and one of the sides even acknowledged that pak played better, and it was no luck. I want to pity people like anil who like to judge people from where they are from rather than the talent, as the same pakistani team who didn't play in the IPL won the cup, while the poor indian team got kicked out in the second phase. Goes to show that IPL is a kid's league and international cricket is a whole different format. It doesn't matter if the pak players play in the IPL or not, it won't affect their competitiveness at all, as they clearly showed in the recent world t20. Pakistan Zindabad!!!
IPL is bullshitBy: taha | 28-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward This message is to Anil. The IPL franchise owners are a bunch of amateurs who don't know how to bid and what price to bid on the players. You can tell by the first auction. Guys like Glenn McGrath, Ponting, Umar Gul, Sohail Tanvir, got auctioned for less money, than people like David Hussey, VVS Laxman, Dravid, and of course Tendulkar, and Symonds. Many of the so called high price takers didn't perform as well as they were expected including indian players. So its useless to say that pakistani players are not worth what they are, as two of the pakistani players I mentioned performed really well, in Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul. It goes to show the biased nature and favouritism from the owners, rather than selecting a really good side. Many of your indian players were hyped up in the first version but didn't perform, like yuvraj, laxman, dravid, harbajan got banned. Again i will give the same advice that I did to satish, try and look in your own backyard before criticizing others
Stop this bullshit nowBy: Indian | 28-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Why do you guys always think as an Indian? What do u think why were we attackd 26/11? Already going through a war, why would Pakistan do terror in India? Because they wanted to show that we can come in your city
