IAC snubs Shanta on Priyanka Vadra property

An attempt by BJP's Shanta Kumar to fish in troubled waters boomeranged when the India Against Corruption (IAC) issued a terse statement in reply to his letter that the BJP government in Himachal Pradesh should investigate whether Priyanka Vadra owns property in Shimla and highlight violations, if any.

In his letter on Saturday, Kumar had complimented IAC on their accusations against Priyanka's husband, Robert Vadra, and urged them to include the Shimla property "about which I do not have too much details but is said to be worth crores" in their list of Vadra's contentious acquisitions.

"Shanta Kumar is saying he does not have information. We don't understand this. He can find this out very fast as his party is in power. We appeal to Shanta Kumar and Chief Minister P K Dhumal that they tell the public whether Priyanka has any property in Shimla as is alleged. We also know that no outsiders can buy property in Himachal without the state government's permission. If this is true, when was Priyanka Vadra given permission to buy property in the state and which government gave it?," the IAC said.

On Kumar's remarks that a handful of people are looting wealth, it said, "We want to bring their attention to the fact that the BJP is also involved in this loot..."

Unfazed by IAC's snub, the BJP on Monday supported Kumar's demand for a probe into Priyanka's Shimla property. "Shanta Kumar is a very senior leader of the party and has raised a vital issue. This land allotment happened during Congress rule..," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.
