The US-based International Automotive Components Group (IAC) here on Friday, announced the setting up of its new manufacturing and engineering plant in Chakan, Pune spread across 12.5 acres.
Addressing a press conference, Jim Kamsickas, president and CEO of IAC Group North America and Asia said the new facility would help the company better to cater to the domestic market. “ IAC was awarded new contracts to supply interior and exterior components to Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) utility vehicle, Mahindra Navistar Automotive Ltd.-medium and heavy truck programme and a Volkswagen Polo small car. All of which will be supported at this new location,’’ he said.
The new IAC facility with a 25 million investment will manufacture vehicle interior components and systems, including instrument panels, cockpits and door assemblies. Kamsickas said with the growth expected in the automotive market in the coming decade the Pune centre would support the global growth needs. For the M&M SUV the IAC will be supplying instrument panel, door trim panel and floor console and for the Volkswagen it will supply glove box assembly.
Speaking about the future plans of the company in the country Gajanan V Gandhe, vice-president, Asia operations said the company would be targeting all the major automotive players in the region.
He said the strategy of the company in the country would be to concentrate in the vector where there is a lack of quality components. IAC has engineering, sales location in Japan as well as in China. The company has manufacturing unit in 17 countries.
