After India's convincing win in which almost everything went his side's way, captain MS Dhoni called the game "a well written script." "I think it is a well-written script: a good toss to win, unfortunately for Sri Lanka they lost Dilshan,we capitalised on that, then the bowlers bowled well, especially the spinners," Dhoni said, speaking to the media after the end of the game. While things may have gone to plan, even he would not have imagined rolling his arm over, and that too for four overs. "The ball was still doing a bit,Bhuvnesh had already bowled 8 or 9,we wanted to keep some of the fast bowlers' overs for the death,so with Karthik around I think might as well give it a go," he said, speaking of his decision to take up the ball. He did not go for much, and Dhoni admits he initially planned to sent down just one over, but his moderate success convinced him to carry on. "I thought even if it goes badly,I'll bowl one over. It went okay so I bowled another," he said. Dhoni said he expected a tougher fight from England, but that they were not an unfamiliar opponent. England are a very good side, and we have played a lot against them in the last couple of years." Man-of-the-match Ishant Sharma acknowledged the fact that the conditions were helpful and that he was ably assisted by fellow-pacers Umesh Kumar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. "I think the conditions were really favourable here,in the previous games the wickets were quite flat. My strength is the bounce,I stick to my strength. I think up front Umesh and Bhuvi bowled really well," he said. Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews said the toss played a critical role, with the Indian bowlers making full use of the conditions that assisted swing and seam bowling early on. "The toss was crucial,we would have also bowled if we won the toss. The ball was seaming around, swinging around, the pitch was two-paced,our batsmen found it difficult. But credit should go the Indians," he said, speaking after his side's eight wicket-loss.
