ICC confirms Dinesh Karthik as Sehwag’s replacement

The ICC confirmed stumper-batsman Dinesh Karthik as the replacement for an injured Virender Sehwag in India's Twenty20 World Cup squad.

The International Cricket Council confirmed stumper-batsman Dinesh Karthik as the replacement for an injured Virender Sehwag in India’s Twenty20 World Cup squad.

The ICC Event Technical Committee also approved Aaron Redmond as a replacement player for Jesse Ryder in the New Zealand squad.

Karthik takes over from Sehwag who has not recovered from an injury to his right shoulder that ended his Twenty20 World Cup campaign without playing a single match.

Meanwhile,Redmond came into the New Zealand squad due to the fact that Ryder is suffering from an abdominal illness and is unable to take any further part in the event.

“The committee reviewed the medical reports and was satisfied the reasons for the replacements were both genuine and as such has granted the BCCI and NZC (New Zealand Cricket) the right to replace the players on medical grounds,” the ICC said in a statement.

The Event Technical Committee of the Twenty20 World Cup comprise ICC General Manager David Richardson,Tournament Director Steve Elworthy,ICC member Campbell Jamieson,England and Wales Cricket Board representative Alan Fordham and former players Ian Bishop and David Lloyd,both of whom are independent nomination.
