BJP's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani on Monday raked up the issue of Afzal Guru and said that the UPA government was delaying his execution thinking they will get votes by doing so. "They (UPA) are saying that there were terrorist attacks like the one on Parliament and Aksahrdham when I was Home Minister, I say yes I accept it. But see what we have done in the case. We caught the conspirators, prosecuted them and convicted them," Advani said, addressing an election rally in New Vadaj area of the city.

"One of the main accused was given death sentence. He appealed in higher courts but it was rejected. Still he has not been hanged. If he (Afzal) were Anand Singh or Anand Mohan then he would have been hanged by now. I would like to ask Manmohan Singh is it just because he is Afzal Guru he is not being hanged?" Advani asked. "I have talked to my Muslim brothers, they too are not for this decision. They say that government was taking their name and doing wrong things, we are not saying don't punish the terrorists," he said.

He said, "If the UPA government is thinking that by delaying execution of Afzal Guru they will get votes, then they are wrong... India's Muslims are saying that by doing this the government was defaming their community."

Advani, who has till now addressed election rallies in over 90 Parliamentary constituencies, said that BJP government in Gujarat has done well and that is why people are talking about it in the entire country.

    ... contd.

Advani AgainBy: Anant | 02-May-2009 Reply | Forward Advani/BJP are bankruptany new ideas to take the country forward. Advani keeps singing the same old tune and to be honest it is working against him. Intelligent people can see through the BJP hollowness and Advani is hoping to get votes on divisional politics. I hope for India's sake that it will not work and the Indians will look to a better future inspite of BJP. Why the journalist don't challange Advani for his silliness and one track mind?
Are you going to Hang BJP and ModiBy: JASWANT BAWA | 28-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Salim Jumma is not muslim first, he is Indian first, and anyone who can see that these crooked politicians are responsible for the death of so many innocent people, and still In business, all I can say is SHAME on YOU INDIA. you could not produce nice politicians who will take us to that promised land, instead these politicians have secretly stashed so much money in Foreign banks, is ridiculous and no one there in the Govt. can bring that money back. If India was like USA or England, where AAM AADMI is enjoying the life, these politicians will still be nabbed and put behind the bars. Just think about it before you vote this time round. You will be carcerated for next 5 years.
Question to Majboot NetaBy: Raghu | 28-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Why is Shri Advani trying to put the blame regarding Kandahar on Mr. Vajpayee and on the NDA and why is he trying to distance himself from that decision? Is it not true that Shri Advani in both his book and in a "Walk the Talk" interview with Shekhar Gupta of Indian Express confirmed that he was not consulted and not involved in the decision making regarding Kandahar? Is it not equally true that no less than the then Defence Minister, Mr. George Fernandez, in an interview to Mr. Karan Thapar on 30.03.2008 after Mr. Advani's book release, categorically confirmed that Mr. Advani was present at the meeting which took the Kandahar decision? Is the sign of strong leader.a Majboot Neta.one who leads from the front or one who tries to dishonestly shift the blame onto his own party and his own leaders to try to avoid tainting himself? Is it the sign of a strong or "Majboot" leader who runs away from journalists when faced with straight but uncomfortable questions based on hard facts? Is it not true, as also reported by the Indian Express (Coomi Kapoor) on Sunday, 12.04.2008, that Shri Advani walked out from a TV Channel's interview when faced with uncomfortable questions? We believe that Shri Advani was questioned about the corrupt practices of his party and hence walked away. Is this because he cannot face the truth? How can a person who runs away from journalists prove to be a strong leader or deal with terrorists? Is this not true or if Shri Advani disputes it, let him have the telecast of the interrupted interview done and the tapes be made public? Should not the concerned TV channel make this interview public as it did in the case of Mr. Modi who, in an earlier interview walked away but the incomplete interview was telecast nevertheless?
Afzal By: Joginder billowria | 28-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward From this its very evident that how much our security/ invevstigating agencies are capable , that they could not procecute one convict till today, or may be they are still waiting for another hijack or kidnaping
BJP and Chanting Afzul guru By: SVS Subrahmaniam | 28-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward I do not know exactly the reason or compulsions for the government for not executing Afzul guru after Supreme Court’s verdict. But he is not let out by the government by giving pardon to him; and also I do not think that they act like this simply on the accuses being made by BJP. He is still in jail pending the action. I understand by Chidambaram’s statement few days ago that it is in process as still some back logs of the cases are still pending. It is question that is congress and UPA are doing this “delay” simply for pleasing the Muslims to get their votes as claimed by BJP. Whether they are doing so or not, BJP is very much using the Afzul card for their vote bank politics by rousing emotions in the Hindus. But I do not think the Hindus are so much ignorant of the facts and get in to the trap of the BJP. They will weigh situation properly and decide their vote. IT IS REALLY VOTE BANK POLITICS BY BJP
