If blokes don8217;t learn,we8217;ll find ones who will: Darren Lehmann

Australia8217;s batsmen are playing for their careers after another dramatic Ashes collapse, coach Darren Lehmann said.

Yep,theres nothing wrong with that. Im happy for you to write whatever you write there, Lehmann told a news conference when asked if careers were in jeopardy following the 74-run loss to England in the fourth test in Durham.

From our point of view, the blokes have to learn. If they dont, well find blokes that will, said Lehmann. If theyre not,and making the same mistakes, then weve got to change, and thats a simple fact of cricket and results.

Set 299 to win,Australia went from 109 for no wicket to 224 all out on Monday, giving England a 3-0 lead in the five-match series. The manner in which a majority of the Australian batsmen contrived to lose their wickets was especially frustrating for Lehmann.

Shambolic performance

Blokes are missing straight ones. That doesnt help, Lehmann said. I thought Warner got a good ball,to be fair,Clarke got a ripper and probably Rogers got a decent ball. The rest should have played a lot straighter and they know that.

Australia have only passed 300 once in eight Ashes innings, with Clarke at Old Trafford and Rogers at Chester-Le-Street the only batsmen to reach triple figures. To play for Australia, you have to perform to a level thats acceptable to everyone in our team, and also the Australian public and the media, and at the moment were not doing that, Lehmann said.

I think theyve fought really hard and theyve shown glimpses of challenging a really good side obviously, but we havent done that consistently enough. So well back them as we have and we will continue to back them, but at the end of the day performances count.

The coach added that the opening partnership of Warner and Rogers had impressed him with their tenacity and belligerence. He said they would stay put at the head of Australias batting order for the time being.

But as for Watsons furiously-debated position in the side,he said that no-ones guaranteed, apart from Michael Clarke and Chris Rogers,I would think.
