The Advocates Association of Bangalore on Wednesday passed a resolution to abstain from attending any court in the city on November 9 as a mark of protest against Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran continuing to hear cases despite the corruption allegations levelled against him.
The association on two earlier occasions passed resolutions calling for the Chief Justice to abstain from hearing cases until cleared of allegations and later for a speedy decision by the Supreme Court collegium on the accusations against Dinakaran.
Justice Dinakaran, however, continued to attend court. A section of the association called for a boycott of the Chief Justice’s court, but many senior advocates prevailed upon the association to wait for the collegium’s decision.
The latest resolution of the association comes after senior advocates approved the token gesture of abstaining from all court work for one day following the Supreme Court’s decision to keep the elevation of Justice Dinakaran to the Supreme Court pending, while going ahead with the elevation of four other judges. K N Puttegowda, the association’s president, said lawyers would decide the course of action based on Justice Dinakaran’s response to the protest.
