Stepping up attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, BJP said if he could not contest the Lok Sabha elections and participate in a television debate with L K Advani due to health reasons, then how will he lead the nation.

"Manmohan Singhji is neither ready to fight the election nor ready for a TV debate with our Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani. His illness is being cited as an excuse," senior BJP leader V K Malhotra said.

"If he is ill and can not even come for a TV debate then how can he become Prime Minister of the country," he said.

Malhotra said Singh contested the Lok Sabha elections just once and he was defeated then.

Advani yesterday challenged Singh to a live TV debate similar to the practice in the US where rival political leaders take on each other.

Reacting to the challenge, Congress spokesperson Jayanti Natrajan had said the BJP seems to be ‘obsessed’ with everything in US. However, she said it was upto the Prime Minister to respond to the challenge.

The senior BJP leader said the Congress is in shambles after many key allies deserted the party in the last couple of days.

Stop this double talkBy: JP | 30-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward Oh common now, stop this double talk. It is known that Godmother Sonia Maino Gandhi administers congress party. Manmohan singh is only a head clerk PM, who wants to do yes madam. He has no skills to build concensus on national issues, like nuke deal.
Manmohan - DebateBy: SVS Subrahmaniam | 29-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward Lal Bahadur Shastri, though short lived as PM, is a "Mitabhashi" who speaks less. Was he not admired as a grest PM? PM is not necessary to talk or debate he should act, and I am confidant Manmohan can do many more things even with out talking or debating than the other "leader" (s).
Manmohan SIngh in Ramayana epicBy: K B Kale | 29-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward Whether he should participate in a US-style debate with Advani? Before we look into who is better, we should understand Manmohan Singh’s role in the present government and future scenario.Like in the epic Ramayana, wherein Bharat ruled Ayodhya in the name of Lord Ram with Lord Ram’s 'padukas' installed on the Ayodhya throne, Manmohan Singh is ruling India in the name of Yuvaraj Rahul (and probably keeps a set of Rahul’s sandals somewhere in his office). As soon as Rajmata Sonia feels that Yuvaraj Rahul is ready to adorn the throne, “Bharat” Manmohan Singh will vacate it, his health be good or otherwise. So why are we wasting our breath? But what a pity that Indians will have to accept a nincompoop like Rahul whose only claim to the Prime Ministership is the accident of his birth!Hey Ram!!K B Kale, Jakarta
as aboveBy: ANANT DALAL | 29-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward I agree that Manmohan is a fine personality and excell in his subject but incapable to lead the country independantly as PM.
MMS vs MKBy: Gaga gamer | 29-Mar-2009 Reply | Forward What is wrong with MMS leading the country. He is only physically ill.Look at M.Karunanidhi, who is physically and mentally ill, and also become senile, ruling Tamil nadu with his sons, nephews, grandsons, daughters, multiple wives, cousins, and a horde of family members. On the contrary, MMS is doing a wonderful job of keeping to his main responsibilities and core competencies and not engage is silly and stupid dialogues.
