  • Bhaichung Bhutia’s fate hangs in a limbo and the spotlight is on the Indian Football Association (IFA) which is likely to take a decision tomorrow on the player’s transfer from Mohun Bagan to East Bengal.

The IFA’s governing body has a job at hand as the issue is delicate and involves the pin-up boy of Indian football. With two Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are stuck in a row over the issue, the IFA intends to handle the matter with care. Bhutia, busy practicing overseas with the national team probables will not be present in the meeting. He will be represented by his counsel Usha Nath Banerjee. The historic Town Hall has been hired by the IFA, for a price of Rs 10,000, for tomorrow’s hearing. The meeting, however, may turn out into a damp squib as the governing body is unlikely to take a final decision and is likely to pass the matter to the players’ status committee. Also, there’s a chance that the IFA may form a special two or three-member committee to solve the problem.

There would be pressure on the governing body from Mohun Bagan though to reach a conclusion straightaway.
