IG sets up new email ID, gets 13 mails on Day 1

After a helpline was launched by the new chief of the UT Police, RP Upadhyaya, he has now created a new electronic mail address, igp-chd@nic.in for the residents of the city to approach the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

On the first day of the launch of the helpline, thirteen people sent e-mails to the IGP. Out of the 13 mails, a few mails were to inform the police about certain traffic problems. There was a complaint highlighting the lack of parking space in the sector where the complainant lives.

Another mail which was received complained about a vehicle which had jumped traffic signals. One of the city residents also sent a mail asking about the progress of a complaint which was made by the complainant at the public window of the police headquarters. The officials of the IGP's office on Tuesday said that those who had sent e-mails on the new e-mail address of the IGP have been responded to and the police is verifying all the complaints made by the residents.

Earlier, the IGP had launched a night helpline number for the residents to reach a DSP level official of the UT Police. Though on the first day the number had received a few calls, on the last two nights, the phone did not ring.
