IGMSY comes under DBT scheme

The Chandigarh Administration on Friday rolled out the next phase of the Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme with the launch of the Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY) through the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System. The scheme is being run by the Department of Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration and it will cover more than 1,100 beneficiaries. For the month of February benefits amounting to Rs 15 lakh are being disbursed.

In order to provide financial support to pregnant and lactating mothers who require greater nutritional support, access to health care services, enhanced food and nutrient intake, family care, skilled counseling support and a hygienic environment, the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India had started IGMSY. Under IGMSY each pregnant and lactating mother will receive a total cash incentive of Rs 4000 in three installments between the second trimester, till the child attains the age of 6 months.

With this scheme coming under DBT, the payments will be directly credited to the accounts of targeted beneficiaries. This will enhance transparency, efficiency and prevent leakages, delays, falsification and ghost beneficiaries.

Director, Social Welfare, Rajesh Jogpal stated that in due course of time, more schemes of the department will come under the DBT scheme and very soon the department will be bringing the pensions of the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) under the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System. The beneficiaries under NSAP will be getting pensions using MicroATMs. For this purpose, the Aadhaar linked bank accounts are being opened by the ICICI bank.

He also said that the Department of Social Welfare, Department of Information Technology and UIDAI Regional Office have put in concerted efforts along with the Punjab National Bank to enable the roll out of this scheme under the Direct Benefit Transfer in Chandigarh.
