IGP falls to death from Gurgaon highrise

Senior IPS officer Manjit Singh Ahlawat,posted as Inspector General of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) at Bhondsi near Gurgaon,died under mysterious circumstances late on Saturday night.
Police are tightlipped on the incident and have declined comment.
Ahlawat had gone to meet an acquaintance at the Freedom Park Life apartments in Sector-57 near Tigra village. He allegedly fell from the balcony of a fourth floor apartment.
Ahlawat was rushed to Artemis Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
A case has been registered at the Sadar police station,under IPC Section 174. Police handed over his body to his family after a post-mortem examination. He was cremated on Sunday.
I am just a friend. I do not know what really happened. It is very tragic, said a person at the cremation ceremony. Family members refused to speak to the media.
According to the post mortem report,Ahlawat died of multiple fractures and internal bleeding.
He suffered multiple fractures and broken ribs. The impact crushed his lungs. His liver was also damaged. No sign of alcohol was found on the person, said Deepak Mathur,who conducted the post mortem.
Neither the apartment residents nor the neighbours were ready to speak to the media. Guards posted at the apartment complex said the flat was rented by a woman who lived with her brother. They had moved in around 8 to 9 months ago.
A senior police officer,who visited the spot,said the viscera had been sent for examination and things would be clear only after the report comes in.
He had gone to attend a get together. There is no foul play detected as of now,but we are investigating all the possibilities, said one of the investigating police officials.
Police sources said Ahlawat,the second of four brothers,is survived by his wife and three children. The third brother in the family is also a senior police officer posted in Hisar district of Haryana.
Ahlawat joined the police in 1989. He was the first joint police commissioner of Gurgaon and served from November 2007 to June 2009.
Senior police officers said he was also in the Vigilance department after which he was posted with the IRB in Bhondsi.
