Summer internships at India's premier business school the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) saw students from its flagship management course (PGP) opting for roles in finance, consulting and marketing or sales in big numbers.
Of the 381 students from the 2012-14 batch of PGP (post-graduate programmes) in management who took part in placements, 25.5% opted for jobs in finance sector, 22% for consultancy while 19.5% opted for marketing or sales jobs, according to the audited summer placement reports that IIM-A released on Monday.
The report has been released by the institute as per the Indian Placement Reporting Standards (IPRS), which has been initiated by IIM-A in a bid to standardise placement reports by B-schools.
Some students expressed their interest to explore non-conventional roles in sectors of their choice. These included stints with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Clinton Health Access Initiative, Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project and the World Bank.
