The members of the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IIT-K) Karamchari Sangathan threatened to go on an indefinite strike if their demands regarding the promotion policy and salary revision were not accepted at the earliest.
This comes on a day when the non-teaching staff of IIT-K went on a 24-hour strike to press for their demands. The institute authorities, however, termed the protest as illegal.
The general secretary of IIT-K Karamchari Sangathan, Kaushal Kishore, said: “We have waited patiently for our demands for many years, but when the concerned authorities failed to take any action, we were compelled to go on a strike.”
Representative of all the seven IITs will soon meet to take a decision on the indefinite strike, he added.
According to IIT-K authorities, the strike had no impact on the functioning of the institute. Registrar Sanjeev S Khashalkar said: “This strike is illegal and it has made no impact on faculty members and students.”
