  • Close on the heels of the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-D) Faculty Forum’s move to accept the Sixth Pay Commission package, the IIT-Kanpur Faculty Forum may soon follow suit.

Following the IIT-D Faculty Forum declaration, the Kanpur Faculty Forum called for a general body meeting on Friday evening to take a decision on the issue of revised salary.

Following the instructions of IIT Faculty Federation, 330 faculty members of IIT-K, which also included research scientists and research engineers, had observed a fast on

September 24 to protest the revised package as proposed by the Union Human Resource Development Ministry on service and salary norms.

In the last few weeks, the Faculty Forum members met the Director of IIT-K, Sanjay Govind Dhande. Convenor of IIT-K Faculty Forum, Rajeev Shekhar said: “Though the final decision will be taken on Friday evening, we are convinced with the assurances made by the HRD Ministry and our institute director.”

According to Shekhar, the Centre has assured that the pay structure norms could be relaxed by the IITs.

“We are optimistic that the assurances given to us will be implemented,” he said. Shekhar, however, maintained that the final decision will be taken in the meeting.
