  • The seizure of seven trucks from the Aravalli region by the Gurgaon Vigilance Department, allegedly carrying rocks and minerals, has brought the district police, the mining department and the district transport department under the scanner.

The vigilance operation was carried out late on Thursday night by Gurgaon Superintendent of Police (Vigilance) Yogender Nehra, after several complaints were received in the last few months on illegal mining and transportation of the mined material.

Two FIRs have also been registered at the headquarters in Panchkula against five police stations — Bilaspur, Manesar, Kherki Daula, Sohna and Tauru.

Acting on a tip-off, two vigilance teams, each headed by a DSP, conducted raids in areas lying under these five police stations.

Six trucks were apprehended from the Manesar-Bilaspur region and one from the Tauru-Gurgaon Road. The trucks had no numberplates or documents to prove their ownership. The drivers had no clearance certificate for the mining material in the trucks.

“We had information, but no one had been specifically named. The origin of these materials and the point of delivery were not mentioned in any document. We have taken drivers on remand and are investigating the ownership based on the engine number and chassis details,” said Nehra.

An inquiry report has been submitted by the vigilance team and a case under Sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code and 13/11-D of the Corruption Act, 1988, have been registered by the vigilance officials against the three named departments.
