  • The city police crime branch raided a private godown at Wadgaonsheri and seized 700 gunny bags of government wheat, worth Rs 2.3 lakh, on Thursday night. The police said the wheat was to be supplied to government authorised ration shops for selling at cheaper cost. It was illegally stored at the private godown and supplied to some traders.

The police team seized a truck filled with wheat bags near St Joseph Convent School in Wadgaon Sheri, in which they found 50 gunny bags of wheat, worth Rs 88,983.

Searches revealed a godown at Agarwal building nearby and 431 bags of wheat were recovered. Police have arrested one Sumerchand Bhaiyyaram Agarwal (46) under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
