  • One more person has died in the Rajkot Civil Hospital following the consumption of spurious liquor in Gondal late last month.

Aamdas Patil (40), who was under treatment at the Rajkot Civil Hospital, breathed his last on Monday. He was among the six people, all labourers at oil mills, who were rushed to the hospital on September 30 from the Jamwadi Industrial Estate in Gondal town after consuming liquor the previous night. Hari Marathi (32) had died on September 30 when the scam was first reported.

Meanwhile, Kanti Patel and his wife, who were arrested by the Rajkot Local Crime Branch (LCB) for supplying illicit liquor, are in three days’ police custody since Sunday. The police have registered a case of homicide not amounting to murder against the duo based on the statement of those affected.

The Rajkot Crime Branch has been verifying claims by the couple that the use of an empty pesticide bottle contaminated the drink.

The police are also verifying whether the couple had brewed the drink themselves or had obtained it from some other source.
