A day after he was accused of beating up a player and making him parade in his underwear, Vinayak Gaikwad, treasurer of Taekwondo Federation of India, claimed he is not guilty and that it was a conspiracy to malign him.
“I have already given my statement to the enquiry committee, and let the truth come out. I’m innocent,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pune player Balaji Pawar was sticking to his guns and said that he’d even contemplated committing suicide after the incident which happened during a national-level open tournament in Nanded in May.
Balaji said he had an argument with a senior coach from Sikkim upon which, the latter hit him and soon players from Sikkim as well as Maharashtra joined in.
The officials from the host association intervened and Pawar was summoned by Gaikwad in his cabin. There, Pawar alleges, he was beaten up by Gaekwad and others.
Rajendra Kadam, one of the two people conducting the enquiry, said that they will submit the report to Sandeep Chavan, the vice president of the Maharshtra association, since president Rakesh Maria has already resigned.
