IMD meet forecasts warning on India’s climate

A thousand miles away from Copenhagen,climate change experts in Delhi spoke on the way changes in climate have affected the economy of the country.

From 10 floods in urban cities in 2005,2007 recorded such floods in 35 cities.

From changes in food production to a steep rise in temperature in North India,experts spoke on the challenges and their possible solutions.

The India Meteorological Department organised the two-day symposium on Wednesday and Thursday to celebrate the diamond jubilee of its quarterly publication called “Mausam” which was unveiled by Minister of Earth Sciences Prithviraj Chavan.

The talk also highlight the importance of accurate weather predictions countering some harmful affects of global warming.

IMD Director General,Dr Ajit Tyagi,said the organisation is on its way to improving the weather prediction by bringing in more technical advancements.

“We’re also working towards dissemination of information and trying to open a channel that is totally dedicated to giving out weather bulletins,” he said.
