Impersonator lodged in jail as undertrial

The Lucknow prison authorities have found that an undertrial, now lodged in jail, is actually an impersonator for the accused in a case of attempt to murder. They have complained about the matter to the court, which had sent him to jail, and the SSP of Lucknow.

The jail authorities concluded that the man was an imposter after going through their old record and questioning him. On September 22, one Raju Yadav, against whom a warrant was pending, surrendered in a local court which sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.

When he arrived at jail, the prison staff got suspicious. They cross-checked the details from their old records of 2006 when Raju was first arrested and sent to jail. They found that the man did not have Raju's identification marks on his body. On interrogation, the man admitted that his real name was Moharram Ali, and he was a resident of Ashiana. Raju, on the other hand, is a resident of Indra Nagar.

According to jail staff, Moharram Ali told them he agreed to go jail after some people promised to pay him.
