The Kerala government was trying to implement an insurance scheme to enable people avail costly treatment,Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the new Super Speciality block in the private Baby Memorial Hospital,a multi-speciality tertiary care hospital in the city.

Union minister of state for external affairs,E Ahamed inaugurated the BMH Heart Centre and Finance Minister K M Mani the institute of Oncology.

M P Veerendrakumar,Chairman and Managing Director,Mathrubhumi,released the brochure and Newsletter on the occasion.

Kerala minister for social welfare and panchayats,Dr M K Muneer inaugurated CT (500 Slice).

The new block houses state-or-the-art departments of cardiology,oncology,radiology and nuclear medicine,Dr K G Alexander,Chairman and Managing Director,Baby Memorial Hospital,said in his address.

The hospital,the largest in the corporate sector,will have a total of 800-beds,he said.

At another function,Chandy unveiled the Mahatm Gandhi Statue in front of the Malabar Christian College,in memory of Gandhiji’s visit to the institution.

Malabar Christian College,a NACC accredited institution was founded in 1909 and has been included in the list of Heritage educational institutions.

Gandhi had visited the college on January 13,1934 and had addressed the staff and students.
