A bread slice with a cup of tea in the morning and one roti with daal is what Desh Raj, arrested for taking bribe, had in barrack number 10 in Burail Jail on Monday. A glum City Superintendent of Police did not even attend the cultural function held on the jail premises in the evening.
Desh Raj remained inside the barrack with fellow inmates, including Sub-Inspector Naveen Sharma who was also arrested by the CBI on charges of demanding bribe.
A city SP was the first to visit Desh Raj in jail in the morning followed by two bureaucrats. Later in the day, Desh Raj's mother and wife came to meet him. The husband-wife duo broke into tears after they met. Desh Raj reportedly told his wife and mother that he was innocent and had been falsely implicated.
As per available information, the SP was given a mattress to sleep.
When contacted, Jail Superintendent Amandeep feigned ignorance. "There is a proper protocol which is to be followed before giving a mattress to an inmate. I am not aware of any such development," he said.
Dejected, Desh Raj did not interact much with other inmates, sources said.
