  • The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Mumbai police is scouting areas in Bihar near the Nepal border for suspected links to the 7/11 blasts, but the Bihar police seem unaware of the danger lurking on its border.

This was evident when a police sub-inspector posted in Jogbani, near the border, K L Yadav, was asked whether any special measures were being taken in this regard. ‘‘No. Nothing extra is being done. We have no special instructions. This area is peaceful and we are happy,’’ he said. His lack of concern about the porous border acting as a corridor for anti-national elements sneaking into the country is reflected in the police brass in Patna too.

This is what a senior cop in Patna had to say: ‘‘What special measures can we take? Police are always alert. It is a 726-km, porous border. Is it possible for police to keep an eye on each and every person crossing it? Meanwhile, based on investigation and interrogation of the accused, the Mumbai ATS team has been hopping from one place to another in the Indo-Nepal border areas in Bihar, questioning suspects, sources revealed.
