Congress leader passes away
Dewan Lakshan Kumar, a senior Congress leader, passed away on Thursday. He was 58. Dewan is survived by his wife and two sons. Dewan came into active politics in 1970’s, when he joined the Youth Congress. He remained a member of the Ludhiana Telephone Advisory Committee from 1981-83. During his political career, spanning almost three decades, he held various positions in the Congress. Manish Tiwari, MP, and Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Minister for Information and Public Relations, Punjab, have expressed grief over the demise of Dewan.
GGNIMT qualifies for Inter-zonal youth fest
GGN Institute of Management & Technology (GGNIMT) has qualified for the Inter-zonal youth festival to be held on November 11, 12 and 13. At the PTU zonal youth festival held at Aryan Institute on November 7 and 8, the GGNIMT team bagged the first prize in play, and mime and mimicry events, where as the participants of Rangoli, cartooning, on-the-spot painting and elocution bagged second prize. The Director of the Institute, Kuldip Singh and the co-ordinator Gunwant Singh Dua appreciated the hard work put in by the participants.
Oriental Bank opens new branch
Oriental Bank of Commerce on Thursday opened its 1428th branch at Dewatwal village in Ludhiana district. The branch was inaugurated by the bank’s regional head, NK Chauhan, deputy general manager. He said that the bank had a strong presence with its 53 branches along with 20 ATMs in Ludhiana region. The bank is offering a bouquet of services equipped with the latest technology. Its total business is worth more than Rs 4,000 crore in Ludhiana and Moga districts, he added.
