More than a fortnight after his party was defeated in the Assembly polls,former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee addressed a rally here on Tuesday.

As a dejected Bhattacharjee addressed the rally organised to protest against price rise,he seemed to be seeking solace from the fact that his party had got 41 per cent votes in West Bengal elections. In his speech,instead of targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee,whom he did not mention even once,he attacked Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh,who had once described Bhattacharjee as the best chief minister of the country.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that Bengal election results were historic. As if the Lefts loss was historic. I would like to tell him that we got 41 per cent votes while the UPA II got only 29 per cent vote share, Bhattacharjee said.

The rally was organised by Kolkata district Left Front.

The former CM blamed the UPA for price rise. Prices of petro-products have been hiked eight times in the past two years of the UPA regime. Prices are being decided by the IMF and the World Bank, Bhattacharjee alleged.

He said that the police and the Trinamool Congress were working in tandem to discredit the CPM.

Reacting to his statement Mamata said,The Left has become restless. I pity them and forgive them.
