The woman at the Guru Govind Singh Government Hospital.

The hospital superintendent has now ordered an inquiry into the matter. State Health Secretary Ravi Saxena confirmed this, adding that a senior-level inquiry committee comprising AIDS activists, senior health officials and others, will be set up.

Activists said the incident showed that the stigma attached to the disease was “very high”, while the awareness level was “very low”.

Health officials said disciplinary action will be initiated once it is ascertained how the incident occurred and who were responsible for it.

Can we have a look at the nurse?By: Paroma Ray | 24-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Terrible news and wonderful job in bringing it out in the open. But apart from the victim's snap could we have a picture of Nurse Prafulla Ramani too. She would be worth looking at. And I honestly believe her picture is the one that should be splashed with this article accompanied with bold captions. All of us need to know who she is. Really.
It is possible in GujaratBy: Divyesh Raythatha | 21-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward An HIV lady has been paraded in a hospital by the staff humiliating her. Doctors refused to treat her is a shock to our society. Today, an average person too in the community knows that HIV infection is not spread except infected blood transfusion, by using the same syringe/needle or surgical instruments used on other infected patients, or having sexual relations with an infected person. It might be possible that the lady is innocent and probably she had been infected in past due to the negligence of medical staff itself in the same hospital or some other unit. To treat a patient respectfully is the prime duty of a nurse and doctor. To cool down the protest by HR activists the hospital authorities have asked the concerned staff to go on leave. Actually, responsible people should be punished for their act. It will set an example for future. A policy should be made and explained to nurses and doctors regarding the treatment of such patients to avoid misbehaviour by the hospital staff.
