A day after chaos prevailed in general house meeting of the civic body, confusion once again started on Tuesday over the passing of items on the agenda. Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura categorically stated that all the agenda items have been passed but Senior Deputy Mayor Parveen Bansal said supplementary agenda cannot be passed at any cost. Bansal said, "All the issues in supplementary agenda need to be discussed before being passed."

Both statements have not only created confusion in the municipal corporation, but also exposed the growing rift within the ruling alliance. Not only the senior deputy mayor but also all the SAD-BJP legislators have criticised the mayor's way of conducting general house meetings. Sources confirmed that in order to avoid protest from within the party, the mayor passed all items on the agenda in a hush-hush manner. Despite repeated attempts, the Mayor could not be contacted.

On Tuesday, Bansal even visited the site of Jhujhar Transport near Jawaddi Bridge. As per an agenda item, this transport company has encroached upon corporation's land near the bridge and rather than vacating it. The civic body agreed to transfer this land to the transport company in lieu of another plot.

"In this way, many other encroachers will also come up with offers. This is ridiculous. The plot offered to the corporation has no strategic importance, while this land is on the main road where the transport company has been parking vehicles. Behind the area, a 4,000 square yard plot of the civic body is located, which can be misused. I am surprised as to how the mayor agreed to list this item on the agenda. This can never be passed," Bansal said.

Sources also said that the corporation has decided to increase the limit of city area by a kilometre and even this has been declared passed. Three years ago, the issue had figured in the corporation's agenda, and the then commissioner and mayor had asked for a debate on it.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary Harish Rai Dhanda and Deputy Speaker Satpal Gosain are already up in arms against many projects of the civic body and its day to day functioning. Sources confirmed that the mayor did not want any more speeches from these leaders in the general house and hence preferred to pass all agenda items before their arrival. Sources revealed that SAD-BJP councillors and even senior leaders of the BJP have approached the Chief Minister and they have complained to him about the role of the mayor, which, they say, is bringing a bad name to the ruling alliance.
