Vikram Vishal recently received Young Scientist Award

Vikram Vishal is a a young researcher who has brought a hope in the country's struggle for reduction in the greenhouse gas emission. Vishal who hails from West Bengal was felicitated as the Best Young Scientist Award on January 3 at the Indian Science Congress in Chennai. He was the youngest among the scientists to receive the award only at the age of 24.

Vishal is working on a multipurpose technology in the form of coal bed methane which will offer low-carbon, clean and green energy to the nation.

"India is a coal-rich nation. We will absorb carbon dioxide emitted by industrial units and take it to regions like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal where there are enough coal reserves. The carbon dioxide will be pumped under high pressure into the deep-seated coal beds," said Vishal explaining on the technology he is working for.The carbon dioxide will expel methane from the coal beds and will be collected and used as fuel in automobiles and for cooking he pointed. Vishal stressed that the research which he has undertaken will come up with green technology that will be commercially viable.

Vishal is an alumnus of Presidency College, Kolkata where he completed his graduation. After that he did his M Sc in apllied Geology at IIT Bombay.
