A five-day Congress training camp was inaugrated by Priyanka Gandhi in her mother and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's parliamentary constituency — Rae Bareli — on Monday.
The aim of the camp is to spread awareness among party leaders regarding the schemes and projects launched by the UPA government and the history of the party. Priyanka, on a one-day visit, was accompanied by Union Minister Salman Khurshid and senior leader from Madhya Pradesh Suresh Pachouri.
"In the light of the party's loss in Assembly elections last year, Priyanka asked party workers to be visible among the public, complaining that the party is not strong enough as people don't even recognise its workers," said a party leader who was present at the camp.
"She asked the party wrokers to interact with public and address any problem people are facing. She also told the party workers that they should understand their importance," the leader said.
While Priyanka focused on party organisation, Khurshid highlighted the achievements of the UPA government in the last nine years, telling the party leaders about the commitments and the promises made by the government in various fields. "He told the party workers about the problems faced by the government, such as inflation, declining GDP and that how the government is dealing with it," a leader said.
Pachouri, meanwhile, talked about the history of the party and its evolution over the decades.
In the coming days, more senior party leaders are expected to address the workers, including state president Nirmal Khatri and Jhansi MP Pradeep Kumar Jain 'Aditya'.
