With the temperature hovering around the 40-degree Celsius mark and power cuts fast becoming the order of the day, the residents of Mohali and Zirakpur are banking on gensets to beat the heat.
In areas with frequent power cuts, inverters provide little relief with its battery often failing to meet the increased demand of power.
Gensets, instead, show better efficiency in times of prolonged power cuts.
Sharad Gupta of Concorde Perfect Power, Sector 37, says: “Inverter batteries have a lifetime of two years, after which they need to be replaced. Gensets, on the other hand, have a longer lifetime.” The sale of gensets has seen a huge increase in Chandigarh, Mohali and Zirakpur.
Regional and Development Manager of Sudhir Gensets Limited Anuj Gupta says: “Over the last month, the sale of gensets has almost tripled. The demand is comparatively higher in
Mohali and Zirakpur, as compared to Chandigarh.”
For the residents, gensets help them avoid the painfully long power cuts during peak summers.
“Diesel gensets are more economical than inverters. They allow one the luxury to sit back and relax in air-conditioned rooms, despite power failures,” says Sandeep Kumar, an NRI from Mohali.
