Home Minister RR Patil said the Pune gangrape case would be tried in a fast track court and Ujjwal Nikam would be appointed the prosecutor. The police have arrested three persons for the alleged gangrape of a 25-year-old in Hinjewadi on April 3. Patil also said a panel headed by a senior home department official would chart out a plan for the restructuring of police stations in the state.

Non-agriculture tax may be abolished
The state government is likely to abolish the non-agriculture (NA) tax levied on housing societies in Mumbai suburbs. Minister of State for Revenue Prakash Solanke said a proposal to abolish the tax would be submitted for the Cabinet approval within a week.

Equal importance for Marathi,English in schools
Minister for Education Balasaheb Thorat said both Marathi and English languages would be given equal importance in schools. The policy of the government will be to enrich Marathi language and literature as well as ensure due importance to the English language.

Nod for Bill to protect doctors,hospitals
The Assembly on Friday passed the Maharashtra Medical Services Persons and Medical Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damages or Loss of Property) Act,under which attacks on healthcare providers or establishments will be treated as non-bailable offences. The attacks will attract a fine of Rs 50,000 or three-year imprisonment,or both,along with compensation twice the value of damage caused.
