In the name of security: shut down, near PM house

  • Delhi Police on Thursday shut down two petrol pumps near the Prime Minister's residence at 7, Race Course Road for a few hours during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's visit. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had organised a private dinner for Medvedev, therefore the high security cover in the area, said officials.

    "The petrol pump is not closed usually but we have been ordered that VVIPs need special cover due to serious threats," a police officer said. "The pump was closed around 6 pm."It was supposed to reopen around 10 pm, when the Russian President was due to leave the PM house. While credentials of all staff at the Sheraton Hotel, where Medvedev is staying, have been checked, Russian secret agents are also in the city.
