With a powerful blast killing 11 people and injuring 74 at the Delhi High Court, lawyers in all six district courts here on Wednesday suspended work to protest against inadequate security in court complexes. In the wake of the explosion, which ripped through a crowded entrance at the high court, the Co-ordination Committee of All Bar Associations said the attack was a result of lack of proper security arrangements. "The Co-ordination Committee is amazed over such incident in the High Court as the High Court has already been provided special security forces to protect itself from any untoward incident," Rajeev Khosla, spokesperson of the Committee, said. He said so far as security measures are concerned, they are protecting the court building only and the lawyers and the litigants have been left to God's mercy. The committee,in its release, said the security at district courts at Tis Hazari,Patiala House,Karkardooma,Rohini,Dwarka and Saket is inadequate and the judges, lawyers and litigants are vulnerable to attacks. "Anyone coming to the district court can bring any bag inside the court complex as there are no X-ray machines to check objectionable materials," it said. The entry of persons as w ell as vehicles inside the court premises need to be regulated,it said. Condemning the blast, the committee said the government should take urgent steps to ensure safety of all.
