Even as the city is witnessing heavy rainfall only since the last five days, many societies in Kondhwa and NIBM road are facing water logging.
Lack of storm water drains in these areas have caused water logging in many societies in Undri. Residents forum secretary Sushil Kumar said that even as the citizens have put forth the issue of adequate storm water drains to the Pune Municipal Corporation only 15 per cent of work is done in the area. Most societies in the area face water logging while others see muck coming into their socities because of water accumulation, said Kumar who has taken the issue up with the corporators.
Sreelatha Menon,a resident of one of the socities in the area which is located slightly down a slope said that all the muck accumulates in their parking area. There is seepage and with continous rain we find it very difficult and have to walk through the accumulated water to reach the main road, she said.
While another resident Shashikant Pawar said that even as some of the societies have storm water drains they are clogged with grime and dirt. It is mandatory to have storm water drains cleaned before the monsoons. This is not done, said Pawar.
While another resident staying in Chandan Gardens in Undri said that water accumulates near the wall of the society. The water logging is very harmful and is a breeding ground for mosquitoes, said the resident.
While corporator Tanaji Lonkar from the area said that he has been demanding more funds to address the issue of storm water drains in the area. We need atl east Rs 50 lakh allocation for proper storm water drains in the area. We have put in request for the requirement but it has not yet been accepted, said Lonkar.
