R Ashwin and Varun Aaron shared six wickets between them as India dismissed England for a modest 220 in the fourth and penultimate cricket one-dayer here today. Electing to bat on a slow Wankhede Stadium pitch,England were off to a flyer - 39 in six overs - with opener Craig Kieswetter making a brisk 29 in 18 balls with the help of two sixes and four fours before India applied the brakes and kept the visitors on a tight leash thereafter. South Africa-born batsmen Jonathan Trott (39 in 48 balls) and Kevin Pietersen (41 in 61 balls) threatened to take charge at one stage before losing their way against the varied home team attack to be bundled out in 46.1 overs. Spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja shared five wickets between them while debutant medium pacer Varun Aaron impressed with a haul of three wickets in the death overs, including that of innings highest scorer Tim Bresnan (45 in 45 balls with six fours). England failed to put together big partnerships consistently, the highest being 73 for the third wicket in 92 balls between Pietersen and Trott. Ashwin bagged three for 38 after an expensive first over in which he gave away 15 runs while Jadeja got good turn to finish with two for 41. The remaining wickets were shared by Praveen Kumar,Vinay Kumar and debutant Aaron (3 for 24). India,3-0 up in the five-match series, were left with the task of scoring at a comfortable asking rate of 4.42 to clinch the tie. England made a brisk start with opener Craig Kieswetter carting medium pacer Vinay Kumar over the straight field into the top tier of the stands for the first six of the match and in between hit the Bangalore bowler for two fours. Ashwin was hastily brought in by skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in place of Vinay Kumar an over later, the sixth of the innings, and the tall off spinner was singled out by the aggressive looking Kieswetter for punishment with a six and a four. These two shots were followed up by a glanced four and then a single by the batsman brought captain Cook to the strike and Ashwin took revenge for the punishment by trapping the gangling England skipper leg before with a straight ball. The visitors suffered a big bow when the in-form Kieswetter was trapped in front of the wicket in the very first ball of the next over by the impressive Praveen Kumar. Two wickets in two balls at the same score pushed England firmly on the backfoot and it needed some solid repair work from the experienced Kevin Pietersen and Jonathan Trott, who came in on the back of his superb 98 not out in the previous game at Mohali. The third wicket duo put on 73 runs in 92 balls with Trott being the more aggressive batsman. At the end of 10 and 15 overs England were cruising along well with 61 and 81 on the board. The two batsmen appeared to have settled down well when Vijay Kumar came back for his second spell to dismiss Trott. Trott made the mistake of playing across for the ball that came in a bit and struck the middle and off bails and at half way stage, the visitors were pegged back at 112 for 3. Trott's dismissal brought in Ravi Bopara to partner Pietersen but both the batsmen could not pick Ashwin's variations and the scoring rate dropped down. Ashwin struck a major blow to England when he had dangerman Pietersen, who was inching slowly to his half century, caught brilliantly on the midwicket fence by an airborne substitute fielder Manoj Tiwary off a slog sweep from outside the off. Then Ravindra Jadeja, who had stemmed the run flow in the initial phase of the innings, was brought back for another stint and justified his captain's faith on him by packing off Bopara and Jonathan Bairstow in successive overs to reduce the visitors to 145 for six in the 32nd over. Both batsmen failed to read the turn of the left arm slow bowler and paid the penalty. England took the batting power play after 35 overs at 162 for six and could not really take advantage of it before they were helped by the bowling of 10 wides off two balls down the leg side by Praveen Kumar. But the visitors also lost the wicket of Samit Patel who was caught at deep mid wicket just inside the rope by Virat Kohli when he pulled Ashwin in the last over of Power Play, the 40th of the innings. England made 30 runs for the wicket of Patel during Power Play. The last 10 overs were also not very fruitful for England with only Bresnan there to give the innings a late push. The tourists added 28 runs in this period while losing three wickets, all to the pace of Aaron who had a fine second spell of 3.1-1-10-3. Brief Scores: England: 220 all out in 46.1 overs (Tim Bresnan 45,Kevin Pietersen 41,Varun Aaron 3/24,R Ashwin 3/38).
