Team India suffered a scare a day ahead of their semi-final clash against Brazil when star spiker Gurinder Singh was tested for H1N1 on Friday morning. However, the test results came out as negative and Gurinder, who scored 26 points against Belgium, reiterated his desire to continue his heroics on court: “I can’t wait for tomorrow’s clash.”
“Gurinder was feeling under the weather early on Thursday and complained of weakness and bodyache. He also had high fever. We did not want to take any chances and that’s why he took the test. He will definitely play against Brazil,” said captain Mandeep Singh.
India will certainly need Gurinder to be fit and at his attacking best for Saturday’s colossal encounter against the reigning world champions, who have not lost a single match in the tournament so far. “We have analysed our opponents after watching a few videos of their other matches and we are simply focusing on playing our natural game,” said coach Kumaran.
Mandeep Singh felt that India needed to focus on their strengths and will take a lot of confidence from their impressive victories so far. “We have prepared well for this game and have a very good chance of winning. If we play like the way we played against Russia or Belgium, no team can stop us,” said a confident Mandeep. He also said that Balwinder Singh, the setter of the team, will have an important role to play as he did in the match against Belgium.
