Australia beat India by 6 wickets in the sixth ODI to take a 4-2 lead in the seven-match series.

India's gamble to bat first on a tricky wicket backfired heavily as they suffered a six-wicket defeat against Australia in the sixth cricket one-dayer to allow the visitors to clinch the seven-match series by taking an unassailable 4-2 lead.

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and surprisingly chose to bat first in heavy weather conditions and the side never really recovered from the early jolts to virtually serve the game on a platter to the worlds champions.

It was a thoroughly professional display by the world champions, who first shot out India for 170 in 48 overs with their second-string attack and then chased down the target in 41.5 overs -- losing just four wickets -- to complete a facile win.

On a track where ball turned sharply, Australia rode on Shane Watson's run-a-ball 49 and cameos from Ricky Ponting (25) and Cameron White (25) to inch closer to the target.

Michael Hussey (35 not out) and Adam Voges (23 not out) then guided them home with 8.1 overs to spare.

Earlier, a horror story unfolded after Dhoni's gamble to bat first on a wicket that offered generous movements boomeranged.

India slumped to 27 for five in nine overs and a three digit total looked like a distant possibility at that point.

Team IndiaBy: Mark | 11-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward India is too predictable, and needs a big overhaul. Get a new captain for a start.
To Bat first Wrong decisionBy: anant | 09-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Dhoni should know that his players don't wake up from their sleep till 10.30am. He should have fielded first to give time to the players to wake up. India has got no opening bowlers Nehra, ishant, Praveen and M Patel are not of international standard. Nehra is indiciplined and gives away runs as no body's business. Ishant never takes any wickets. M Patel, what can one say has nothing to offer. P Kumar needs more coaching. Indian fielding is as if half of the team is dreaming and miss simplest of the catches. Dhoni had already decided within 15 minutes that India has lost the game then it was no surprise that they did lose. Captain is supposed to inspire his team to the last ball and not give up in 15 minutes. Indian team needs overhaul. Pakistan produces best bowlers from Punjab. Why not India use boys from Patiala and train them to bowl fast.

Why to corner SachinBy: N.Swaminathan | 09-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward We lost the series to a well-knit depleted Australian team clearly shows the how Australian select their team based on performances and not on regional basis but in India we do on the bases of Zonewise. For Indian condition, Irfan would have done better than Ishant and Munaf - but he was left out. Cricket is a team game but we cannot deny the fact that without individual's contribution partnership cannot be built upon. In 20 years Sachin has won many games and in Hyderbad too he took us near to victory but the tail enders have failed to get 18 runs with as many as 19 balls. It is a pity that we lose games because of the non-applicaton of batmanship among the team members. Hence, it is necessary to blame Sachin alone for the defeat. How about Sehwag, Gamdbhir and Yuvraj etc.,
Was he drunk?By: waleed ali | 09-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Was his judgement so clouded that he opted to bat on a wet pitch? Did you see him miss easy chances and balls behind the stumps? Should the Indian players be breathlyzed before they are allowed to play?
