Indian fruit packer jail for life for killing landlady

Nagpal was staying with the family and carried out the attack when the husband Dev Sangha was away in India on business. Both the mother and child died in the brutal attack.

Pleading guilty to two charges of murder in the High Court at the Kiwi town of Rotoura,the Judge sentenced life imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of 20 years.

During the trial,the Court heard that Nagpal stabbed Ravneet Sangha 100 times with a number of wounds delivered with such that force serrations were left on her skull.

The two-year-old Anna,who witnessed her mother’s agony fled to her bedroom,but was chased by Nagpal who carried her back to the laundry and stabbed her 10 times in the face and neck.

He then threw the child’s body into a washing machine and turned it on.

Nagpal later escaped taking jewellery and ATM cards belonging to the family and over the next two days drew out a total of 6853 New Zealand dollars from their account.

Police found Ravneet and Anna’s body two days later on a tip off and arrested Nagpal from a central Auckland area.

A grief stricken father became emotional in the courtroom as the sentence was being pronounced and had to be restrained when he almost charged towards the killer.
