India had a good outing on the inaugural day of the 3rd Asian Carrom Championship being held at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City, Balewadi, on Tuesday, when they managed to beat their opponents without losing a single game.
In the women’s team championship, India blanked out Bangladesh 3-0. I Illavazakhi defeated Farzana Bano 25-5, 25-0 without breaking into a sweat. Parimala Devi cruised past Farzana Akhtar 25-6 and 25-9 and Rashmi Kumari completed the rout by thrashing her opponent 25-0, 25-0.
In the men’s section India beat Maldives convincingly by a 3-0 margin. Local player, Yogesh Pardeshi, initiated the demolition with a 25-0, 25-7 victory over Hameed. Hidayat Ansari then met some resistance before beating Hassan Nazim 25-0, 25-18. B Radhakrishnan completed a successful day for the Indians with a 25-0, 25-0 victory over Mohammed Safi.
The championship consists of seven events, Men Team Championship, Women Team Championship, Men Singles, Women Singles, Men Doubles, Women Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
