The Indian Navy Cross Country Championship was held at INS Shivaji in Lonavla on Saturday. Four teams from various commands of the Navy participated in the 12 km race. The race was flagged off by Captain Bhupesh Tater at 6.30 am. The route traversed through the hilly terrain that had a mixture of asphalt and muddy surfaces. In the individual events, Raman Yadav, a Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR) representing the Southern Naval Command, won the first prize with a record timing of 39 minutes and 24 seconds and Anil Kumar, Leading Cook (S) from the Western Naval Command, finished second. The Southern Naval Command won the prize for group performance. The prizes were distributed by Captain Tater at a ceremony held at the Parade Ground in INS Shivaji.
Mukherjee awarded PhD for GIS & defence
University of Pune awarded a PhD degree to Amit Mukherjee in Defence and Strategic Studies under the guidance of Head of the Department Prof A S Dalvi. He did his research on "The Application of GIS for India's defence: To assess battle field conditions and its effects on Weapons and Weapons Systems." The research is considered relevant in the present context where resource management using geospatial technologies for national security is imperative. GIS aids to augment security dimensions through instruments of warfare and logistics management. The study gives impetus to the field and would enhance the development of GIS capabilities of India via scientific, military and academic research.
Lecture on rise of political Islam on Oct 5
Lt Gen (Retd) Amitav Mukherjee, former Director General, Air Defence Artillery, and Member of the Governing Council of Centre for Advance Strategic Studies (CASS) will be giving a lecture on Rise of Political Islam on October 5. The lecture will take place at 11.30 am at the DE Society's Technical Institute Auditorium near Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics. Mukherjee will also interact with the members after the lecture.
