In yet another attack on Indians here, an engineering student from the community was racially abused by a group of Australians, including a woman, who also punched him in his left eye.

36-year-old Amrit Goyal, pursuing automotive engineering from the Australian Industrial System Institute here, was attacked in Laverton area, Amit Meghnani, President of Federation of Indian Students of Australia (FISA), said.

Goyal was attacked yesterday outside his house when a group of two men and a woman hurled racial abuses at him and also physically assaulted him.

"I was standing outside my home when two men and one woman approached me. They were shouting abuses at me... I asked them to calm down but they punched me in my left eye. I called the police but they came after an hour and a half. They said they were busy, and would come when they have the time.

They have recorded my statement and will ask detectives to probe," Goyal said. He said the group also threw a stone at him and kept on saying that he should go back to India. He said he has given the descriptions of the attackers to police.

The latest attack came 10 days after a 22-year-old Sikh was punched in his head by a group of Australians, who also removed his turban while he was sleeping at a bus stop here. Around 30 Indian students were attacked in various Australian cities from June to August.

DoctorBy: Dr Arun Patil | 09-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Perhaps we should now realise after repeated attacks on Indian student, that it is not just the reaction out of proportion to their irrational behaviour inconsistent with Australian way of life. Having met many Australians I can swear that they have definite racist streak ingrained in them. Probably living at remote corner of the world makes them insular and intolerant. Now and in future we should stop employing Australian educated people. Indians Please stop buying Australian Products like wine. I rather pay more for my Bordeaux than a cheap Yellow Tail crap.
Australia's relevanceBy: Edit | 07-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward In a few years, Australia will be an irrelevant and insignificant country, infact it is on the way to be one.If a country like Fiji can insult Australia publicly by kicking out Australian diplomatic representation, then one can gauge Australia's standing globally. The aussies are now desperately trying to be recognised but its not happening.
Use cricket to raise the protestBy: shyam kishore | 06-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward students Please protest in Indian Asutralian criket venue
mrBy: anu | 05-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward we as indians and as hindus have a caste system where the so called educated elite of our society wont sit or mingle with the other millions of indians.all indians in australia go to the same restaurants as australians, drive same cars, use same public transport and enjoy the same rights as any australian but these migrated indians could not afford to drive the same luxury cars in india nor afford to frequnt the same restaurants as the other few indians do. if talking about rascism and discrimination india is the biggest example.indians in australia should worry about their duties as much as they cry about their rights.australians have not invited them to come to australia and if they think india is a better country then why dont they go back and enjoy the indian system, no one is stopping them
Welcome to SydneyBy: Raj Prakash | 05-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Live in Sydney Australia for the past 20 years (originally from Sri Lanka). Of course, you meet an odd Aussie who is not only frustrated with migrants but also with whole Australian way of life but most of them are fantastic. I see a huge different to the original Indian Migrants (skilled) to the students ( please don’t get me wrong for pointing this out as I welcome any migrant from open arms). The students generally tend to be very noisy in Public Transport , talk very loud in Hindi and have a care free attitude which annoys lots of people ( generally people here love to read or hear to music in Trains). In addition, the bargaining culture is quite repulsive to Aussies hence there are few right Wing Aussies capitalise this and pick on poor students. It’s a matter of getting used to the other is all. If the students are given a Aussie way of life before they come in this will help them immensely.
