Indians bag two silver and one bronze at World School Games

  • Indian school children won a silver and a bronze on Tuesday, to make it three medals in the Jean Humbert Memorial World Cup Athletics for Schools which concluded at Tallinn in Estonia.

    If on Monday, Binish Kanjirakattu Shaji from Kerala won a silver in the 200m race, as he finished behind Belgium's Marvin Ndribi.

    Manish won India's second silver at the meet as he finished second in the 100 metres, behind eventual winner Toros Pilikoglu (10.85) of Turkey on Tuesday. Manish clocked 11.11secs in the event. Manish finished 13th in shot put.

    Later in the day, Ankit Sharma from Madhya Pradesh capped a wonderful day for the Indians, winning a bronze in the long jump with a leap of 7.15 metres.

    Near-miss

    Rasmus Rooks (7.20m) of Estonia and Chia-Hung Lin (7.30m) of Chinese Taipei won the gold and silver respectively. Ankit could have earned another bronze for the country, but for his fourth-place finish in javelin throw.

    Among girls, Sangeeta Yadav was the best performer as she finished fourth in 800m race with a timing of 2:19.59. Bibiana Kullu, Arati Yadav and Juby Paily were fifth in 200m, 1500m and pole vault respectively.

    India had sent a 14 member team (8 boys and 6 girls) for the event.
